FAQ

How are the permitted manufacturing processes for derived natural substances selected?

Derived natural substances are produced through chemical reactions from renewable raw materials (e.g. fats, waxes etc.) or they are extracted from minerals. The processes used here are supposed to be modelled on physiological processes. The approved reactions are explicitly laid down in the NaTrue criteria so that chemical-intensive processes are avoided. Furthermore, the surfactants used must be fully biodegradable in accordance with OECD Guidelines 301 A–F.
